Urgent! Student Opportunities to Participate in the SC08 Conference:
Deadlines Fast Approaching!
http://sc08.supercomputing.org
International Conference for High Performance Computing,
Networking, Storage, and Analysis
Empowering Leadership Alliance colleagues: Please note that there are several opportunities for students to participate in SC08 this November 15-21, 2008 in Austin, Texas, including travel support. The SC conference is the world's premier computing conference that each year draws more than 8,000 scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, programmers, system administrators and managers that are driving new ideas, new discoveries, and new industries.
Plan now to be a part of SC08 and its program of trailblazing technical papers, timely tutorials, invited speakers, up-to-the-minute research posters, entertaining panel, and thought-provoking Birds-of-a-Feather sessions. New for 2008 are two Technology Thrusts: Energy and Biomedical Informatics. Additionally, exhibits from industry, academia and government research organizations will demonstrate the latest innovations in computing and networking technology. SC08 promises to be the most exciting and innovative SC Conference yet!
Brief details are provided here in order of deadline (but we think students will be especially interested in the Broader Engagement program and the Student Volunteer program). For additional information, check out the Websites below or write to ann@redelfs.us. But hurry! We may also have an EL Alliance reception or Birds-of-a-Feather session at the conference, so stay tuned for more info.
Posters
http://sc08.supercomputing.org/?pg=posters.html Submissions due: July 31, 2008
Posters displaying cutting-edge research in high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis will be prominently displayed throughout the conference, giving presenters a chance to showcase their latest results and innovations. Students who are ACM members are also encouraged to submit posters as part of the ACM Student Research Challenge (SRC), with awards and special recognition at SC08 plus the chance to compete in the SRC grand finals.
Doctoral Showcase
http://sc08.supercomputing.org/?pg=doctsc.html
Submissions due: Thursday July 31, 2008
A runaway success when it debuted at SC07, the Doctoral Showcase will return at SC08. The showcase invites Ph.D. students who will be graduating in the next 12 months to submit a short summary of their research. Presentations will be 15 minutes each to accommodate as many people as possible.
Education Program
http://www.computationalscience.org/sc08
Registration/applications due: July 31, 2008
The Education Program works with undergraduate faculty, administrators and college students to integrate computational science and high performance computing and communications technologies into the preparation of future scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians and teachers.
Student Volunteer Program
http://sc08.supercomputing.org/?pg=studvolunteers.html
Applications due: August 1, 2008
Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply as volunteers to help with the administration of the conference. Student volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest high performance computing and networking technologies and meet leading researchers from around the world while contributing to the success of SC08. Students will receive complimentary conference registration, housing (for out-of-town volunteers) and most meals. Applications are due Friday, August 1, 2008. Applications for Student Volunteers are available at http://submissions.supercomputing.org/
Broader Engagement Program
http://sc08.supercomputing.org/?pg=broadeng.html
Applications due: August 15, 2008
Want to learn how next-generation computing, networking and storage technologies help to solve our world's challenges and problems? Do you want to be in a place that brings together scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, programmers, system administrators and managers to discuss, discover and innovate the path forward for computing? If so, SC08 is for you. BE grants will provide travel assistance and conference registration to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and young professionals from groups that have traditionally been under-represented in computing.
HPC Ph.D. Fellowship Program
http://sc08.supercomputing.org/?pg=hpcfellowships.html
Submissions due: September 8, 2008
The Association of Computing Machinery, IEEE Computer Society and SC Conference series have established the High Performance Computing (HPC) Ph.D. Fellowship Program, which seeks to help address the important issue of training the next generation of HPC scientists and engineers. Fellowship recipients will receive a stipend of at least $5,000 (U.S.) for one academic year.
