http://www.percom.org/percom-travel-grant.pdf

The National Science Foundation (NSF) of the U.S.A, and IEEE PerCom 2008 Steering Committee announce that approximately 10 to 15 student travel grants are anticipated in the amount of $1000-$1500 each, sponsored by the NSF, to attend the Sixth Annual IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications (PerCom2008) to be held in Hong Kong, March 17-21, 2008. These grants can be applied toward airfare and hotel expenses to attend PerCom 2008. Recipients are expected to make their own travel arrangements.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS:

* The funding will be used for student travel-related support only.

* The recipients of the travel awards must be US-based students only, that is, Ph.D. students attending universities in the US (not necessarily US citizens or permanent residents).

* Special efforts will be made to recruit student participants who are underrepresented minorities (i.e., African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders) and/or women, coming from diverse institutions.

* Some priority may be given to student authors with accepted papers in PerCom 2008 who may not otherwise be able to attend due to budgetary constraints.

* A committee consisting of Sajal K. Das (Chair), Matt Mutka, and Gergely Zaruba will evaluate the applicants and select the travel grant recipients

* All student travel awardees are required to register for the conference.

* A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date;

* A description of areas reflected in the PerCom program that would impact the student's research;

* Why the conference attendance is important to the student.

* In addition, the student's adviser should send a letter of recommendation to the committee that includes: confirmation that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing; the suitability of the PerCom program material to the student's research area; ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the conference; the strengths and potential contributions of the student; and availability of funds from other sources, particularly the adviser, the student, and/or the student's institute is required to pay for the student's conference registration fee.
